Older Chrysler and Dodge Cars Owners Are Told Not to Drive Until Takata Airbags Can Be Replaced

Chrysler and Dodge Cars Owners

One of the most well-publicized automotive disasters was Takata’s airbag issue. Major automakers issued huge recalls to replace the hazardous airbag units. They could burst and cause damage to the passenger compartment. Anybody alive in 2015 would have been unable to ignore all the press coverage surrounding the recalls. It’s therefore surprising that we are still trying to find owners of affected vehicles.

Stellantis has instructed Chrysler and Dodge owners with 2005-2010 Dodge or Chrysler vehicles to leave their cars until they have a solution for the Takata airbags. In addition to the Chrysler 300, affected vehicles include the Dodge Charger Magnum and Challenger. This group contains more than 275,000 vehicles.

It is important to note that this is not a new recall. Stellantis reminds people that they should have complied with the original recall seven years ago. The airbag problem has caused more than 30 deaths, so it is understandable that Stellantis wants to stop further deaths.

Stellantis stated that Takata’s airbag inflators can deteriorate in humid and hot environments. This can lead to inflators exploding instead of deploying, causing shrapnel to be hurled directly at the victims.

There’s no reason to not get a fix for your vehicle if it falls within this range. Stellantis/Fiat Chrysler will pay for your vehicle to be towed and for the replacement of the airbags at no cost. It takes less than an hour to fix the problem, so don’t ignore it if your Chrysler or Dodge is older.
