In recent weeks we’ve heard of recalls affecting hundreds of thousands of vehicles. But supercar manufacturers don’t have this kind of scale. McLaren has recently issued a recall. The number of affected vehicles and the component that caused the entire mess is small.
British automaker Artura recalls 164 vehicles for a possible problem with the high-pressure fuel pipe nuts. McLaren stated that affected cars have cold-formed nuts which can cause leakage from the fuel pump’s direct-injection fuel pump, especially during dynamic driving routines associated with track running.
Cold-formed nuts’ rolled threads have less residual torque than necessary to secure them. McLaren stated that some Arturas were built using fully machined nuts. McLaren proposes to replace high-pressure fuel pipes with cold-formed nuts with fully-machined high-pressure gas pipes.
McLaren is not the only supercar manufacturer to have small-scale recalls for 2022. Last month, nine units of the Countach were recalled by Lamborghini over concerns that the rear glass panels might come loosening and detach. Ferrari’s largest recall included nearly all of its vehicles sold since 2005. More than 23,000 vehicles were recalled by the Italian company to reduce the risk of brake failure.
