Henry Cavill Says He Will Not Be Returning as Superman

Henry Cavill says he will not be returning as Superman

DC fans from all over the world mourned on Wednesday, when British actor Henry Cavill said he will not be wearing the red cape of Superman within The DC Comics extended cinematic universe.

The fans were shocked as this happened following Cavill’s announcement in October that he would return as Superman. Man of Steel. Cavill even appeared in the role of Superman in the mid-credits sequence in the closing credits of “Black Adam,” which is a DC film that starred Dwayne Johnson. (CNN along with DC Films are both parts of the identical parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery.)

In Instagram, Cavill explained he met filmmaker James Gunn and British film producer Peter Safran, who in October was named co-chairmen as well as Chief Executive Officers for DC Studios.

“I will, in the end not return to the character of Superman,” Cavill wrote. “After being ordered by the studio that I would be announcing my return in October, just prior to the announcement of their hiring, this news isn’t exactly the most pleasant to take, but it’s just the way things are. The change of guards is a regular thing. I am awestruck by that.”

Cavill stated that, despite not returning to the Superman role, “Superman is still around.”

“Everything that he represents still is in existence, and the standards that he set for us continue to be there!” he wrote. “My moment for wearing the cape has come and gone however, the values Superman is about will never go away. It’s been an enjoyable ride with you all. Onwards and up.”

Gunn also made a post on Twitter on Wednesday posting a tweet that Safran and Gunn “have a DC slate in the works that we could not be happier about. We’ll be able to reveal some exciting details about our first ventures at the start of the year.”

“Among the names on the schedule is Superman. In the beginning, the story will focus on the earlier period of Superman’s history, therefore Superman will not play by Henry Cavill,” Gunn stated.

Gunn began to answer questions from fans. He stated in addition to that the fact that he’s been working on the script for a Superman film for some time and that this wouldn’t be an origin film.

The announcement of Wednesday’s news is on the heels of Cavill’s resignation of the Netflix show “The Witcher” after serving as the lead actor for the past three seasons. The actor Liam Hemsworth will be taking his role.

CNN has approached representatives of DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Films.

Since the time they were appointed, Gunn and Safran have been looking at the studio’s roster of projects. They’ve also had a few choices recently drawing attention. On Tuesday the director Patty Jenkins opened up about reports that the studio will not move forward with a third film in “Wonder Woman. “Wonder Woman” franchise.
